**** License Renewal Guidelines ***

The Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners now requires that ALL 30 CE credits must be obtained by December 31 of the year PRIOR to the license expiring. If a license expires on June 30, 2008 then all CE credits to qualify for renewal must be taken by December 31, 2007. The Licensees may still request, in writing a six month extension, but all CE credits must be obtained on or before the expiration date of the license (June 30). Questions??? 8 Hour Radiation Safety Update

Course held at the MSDA classroom facility.  This course satisfies the Maryland 8-hour requirement for recertification for dental assistants.  It is an overview of dental radiography for dentists and hygienists desiring to update their skills.  Fee includes lunch. 
               Fee: $145/ MSDA member dentist 
                        $245/ non-member dentist. 8 CE Hours.

Acupuncture

Dr. Warren Morganstien will provide an introduction to the theories, applications and techniques of acupuncture relating to health care in general, and oral and craniofacial health care, in specific. The use of acupuncture in the treatment of oral and craniofacial pain and disorders will be discussed as well as the use of acupuncture for patients undergoing treatment for head and neck malignancies. 2 ceu's

CPR Renewal for Healthcare Providers

Course is designed for all members of the dental team who need to renew CPR requirements for relicensure. (Limit 12) CPR Instructors are affiliates of the American Heart Association (AHA). Held at MSDA classroom facility.  Please review the AHA current manual prior to attending class. Updates will be given. If you are need of an updated manual, please call the MSDA office and we will give you a source for aquiring this manual.

$95/MSDA member or staff;

Difficult Patients: Management Tools: Oral medications, Nitrous, Conscious Sedation, OR?

 

How can we treat difficult patients more efficiently, effectively and easily? Difficult patients; those who may have situational anxiety, panic attacks, Alzheimers, autism, or are mentally challenged, combative, very young, fearful, phobic, or medically or physically compromised? This 4-hour hands-on participation course offers tools and tips for successful management of these special-needs patients. Dr. Harvey Levy shares ideas on treating these patients with greater ease and success such as in office conscious sedation with use of nitrous oxide and oral medications.

Drugs, Supplements & Dentistry Update for 2008

Back by popular demand Dr. Richard Wynn: Updates on drugs, supplements and dentistry

Dr. Wynn will review drugs & supplements as related to dentistry. His presentation is always informative and interesting.

Certificates of Completion granted at successful completiion of course. There is a $10.00 fee for replacement certificates.
Radiology certification preferred, but is not mandatory

Introduction to Basic Dental Assisting (Chairside)

For those who are:  People oriented...ATeam Player...And have an interest in dentistry!  Prerequisite:  High School Graduate or Equivalent

Goal:  The students, upon successful completion of the course, will have job entry-level skills as a Dental Assistant and will receive a certificate of completion.

Oral Radiography Techniques

Oral Radiography Techniques (36hrs) (Limit 22 students)
Prepares dental assistants who are employed in a dental office to sit for the DANB Dental Radiation Health and Safety Certification exam.
All clinical practice takes place at the student’s place of employment (including full-mouth series and two bitewing x-rays).
Course requirements:
1. High school graduate or equivalency,
2. Letter from the employing dentist verifying employment and a commitment to your direct clinical
     supervision.
3. Must have working knowledge of basic oral anatomy, basic infection control and basic dental
     terminology.
         Cost: $505
               Fees: $355/course 
                           $150/Textbooks/Handouts
All students are required to purchase textbook package

 Pathway I
18 years of age
o 3 months (300 hours) full time in clinical setting in dental office
o Basic oral anatomy course or basic dental assisting course.
o Must be employed in dental office for direct clinical supervision.

Pathway II
o 18 years of age
o Pre-test taken for acceptance in radiology course (basic oral anatomy and dental terminology).
o If student fails pre-test, must take a basic dental assisting course.
o Must be employed in dental office for direct clinical supervision.

Pathway III
o Basic dental assisting course prior to Board approved radiology course (18 years of age for Radiology), not to be taken concurrently.
o Must be employed in dental office for direct clinical supervision, unless classroom facility offers hands on Clinical.
